Doc's Notes

If you know anything about orthodontics, then you’ll have heard of Invisalign. The groundbreaking orthodontic treatment solution first hit the market back in 2000, and since then, it has given more than 17 million people a picture-perfect smile.

Invisalign is highly regarded by dentists and patients thanks to its unique characteristics. Unlike other orthodontic treatments, Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible. They’re also comfortable and removable, allowing wearers to retain their usual eating habits while undertaking treatment.

With that said, while Invisalign is a terrific option for many people looking to improve their smiles, it’s not for everyone. There are some dental issues that Invisalign can’t fix (but don’t worry — other treatment solutions can!).

Let’s run through what Invisalign can and can’t fix, as well as present some alternative treatment options if your dental issue falls under the ‘cannot fix’ category.

What Invisalign Can Fix

Interested in Invisalign Chattanooga TN? You’re not alone. It’s an effective, proven way to get an award-winning smile without the hassle of traditional braces.

This treatment solution is designed for people with mild to moderate orthodontic issues and covers the following:

Misaligned Teeth
Have misaligned teeth? Invisalign could be just the treatment you need to transform your smile. It’s highly effective at treating overbites, underbites, and crossbites, with treatment time typically taking around 6 – 12 months.

Crooked/Crowded Teeth
Crooked or crowded teeth aren’t dangerous, but they can impact the appearance of a smile. Many people who have crooked or crowded teeth feel self-conscious when smiling.

Invisalign is a proven treatment method for crooked and crowded teeth, typically achieving excellent results in around 12 months. At The Mint Dental, our personalized Invisalign treatment plans are designed with your specific needs and requirements in mind.

Gaps in Teeth
Gaps in teeth don’t only impact appearance. They also increase the risk of cavities and gum disease. Invisalign can help to close mild to moderate gaps in teeth.

What Invisalign Can’t Fix

Most people with mild to moderate orthodontic problems will find that they’re a good candidate for Invisalign. With that said, Invisalign isn’t an all-conquering orthodontic solution. There are some issues that it can’t fix.

Large Gaps Between Teeth
While Invisalign can close small tooth gaps, it’s generally not appropriate for larger gaps. If you have a gap of 6mm or more, then traditional orthodontic solutions will likely be recommended.

Rotated Teeth
Traditional treatment can reposition rotated teeth, but Invisalign can only do so if the rotation is under 20 degrees.

Other Orthodontic Treatments

Invisalign is effective, but it’s not the only orthodontic treatment that can get results. The following treatments are suitable for fixing issues that Invisalign cannot.

  • Traditional Braces: Consisting of metal brackets and wires, this treatment is suitable for patients with significant misalignment.
  • The Damon System: An innovative orthodontic treatment, the Damon System braces are discreet and fast-acting.
